Creative Education Grants 2015
- Twenty-Two Tablets to Terrific Times! - $2,100 Award to Tina Zacherl - South Butler Primary School This grant supported a project allowing students to excel at their own pace and to research areas of specific individual interest via access to personal tablets. Programs that might be used would include Moby Max, Class Dojo, and other educational sites, especially ones with math content.
- Musical Theatre International Broadway Teacher Workshop - $2,129 Award to Jennifer Bronder - Knoch High School This staff development grant will broaden the teacher's ideas for innovative ways to teach her theater classes and enhance her creativity in directing the school's fall play and musical.
- Teaching Music Production with Garage Band and Other Related Apps Through the Use of iPads - $1,500 Award to Brent H. Russell - Knoch Middle/High Schools This grant award supported the purchase of new iPad Air 2's for use in music technology labs to give students the chance to acquire real world skills in recording, mixing, sequencing, and composing various multi-media projects, in support of the district's STEM initiative.
- Agriculture Club - $1,000 Award to Lauren Burgard & Krisann Lambert - South Butler Intermediate Elementary School This is a second year grant award to continue the work of the Agriculture Club. This year the teachers have partnered with the Penn State Extension to promote understanding and awareness of basic agriculture in the local community and to provide hands-on learning experiences to demonstrate the importance of agriculture to life.
- Keystone State Reading Association 48th Annual Conference - $1,905 Award to Jennifer French & Marcia Holl - South Butler Intermediate Elementary School This staff development grant award allowed two Title I teachers to attend the conference where they had the opportunity to discover strategies to reach all learners and to become more knowledgeable in the area of literacy, given Pennsylvania's adopted Common Core Curriculum.
- Incorporating Technology via iPads into the Mathematics and Language Arts Curriculum - $2,621 Award to Misty Mohney - South Butler Primary School This grant award provided the opportunity for kindergarten students to advance and excel beyond the traditional classroom through the use of iPad Air devices. The devices will enhance instruction for students of all levels, helping them to develop collaboration, writing, research, math, and technology skills.
- KMS 21st Century Teaching and Learning STEM Skills Initiative - $4,050 Award to Dr. Frank Moxie - Knoch Middle School This grant award funded a class set of Chrome Books to be shared among the classrooms at Knoch Middle School. The Chrome Books furthered the STEM initiative in the middle school by allowing students to use technology to complete projects involving creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration with an increased level of engagement.
- KMS & KHS Steminism - $1,135 Award to Mrs. Melissa Grantz - Knoch High School This grant provided monthly activities for female students at KMS and KHS to experience career opportunities in STEAM fields.
- SBPS iPad Lab - $8,554 Award to Mr. David Keibler - South Butler Primary School This grant funded the purchase of 25 iPad Air 2 devices, along with charging stations, to be housed in the new iPad Lab. These devices allow students to use apps to work on concepts at their own learning pace.
- Robotics/STEM Lab Equipment - $2,800 Award to Mr. Todd Trofimuk - Knoch High School The Knoch High School Robotics/STEM Program has expanded significantly over the past 3 years, necessitating the development of a Robotics/STEM Lab. This grant acquired a fundamental tool used in STEM Curriculum courses and in preparation of the First Robotics Competition robot: a laser cutter/engraver.
- CMU Girls in Science Program - $800 Award to Mrs. Denise Chybrzynski and Mrs. Pam Osche This grant was collaborative with CMU's Outreach Program and was designed to introduce STEM careers to elementary-age girls.
- Creating Music Through Modern Technologies - $3,741 Award to Mr. Brent Russell - Knoch Middle/High School This grant funded further expansion of the Music Technology Lab with purchase of 5 iPad Mini 2's and a custom-made production computer, plus 8 hours of recording time at Soundscape Recording Studios.
- 21st Century Teaching & Learning Technology Support Initiative - $1,000 Award to Mr. Eli Shaheen - South Butler County School District This grant matched the School District's commitment to providing apps for its numerous classroom electronic devices.
- Knoch High School Logo Window Design - $2,950 Award to Mr. Todd Trofimuk - Knoch High School The window graphic of the Knoch Knight serves as a great sense of pride to Knoch students, as it identifies their school and acts as a great welcome sign to the community and to visitors.
- Project Lead the Way Computers - $27,000 Award to Mr. Tyler Vargo - Knoch High School Funding of these 27 high-speed computers improved the curriculum for the existing 3-D Imaging course and enabled Knoch to add the Computer Integrated Manufacturing course to the curriculum in the 2016-2017 school year.
